Tip 1:Pick a domain that represents your business

If you’re a food blogger with the brand name “John’s Healthy Dishes”, it wouldn’t make much sense if your domain was “johnslawsandpractices.com", right?”. This could leave your visitors confused as to what your business’ purpose is.

For this example, “www.johnshealthydishes.com” is a much more appropriate option and encompasses your business much better.

Tip 2:Think like a visitor

Try and place yourself in your visitors’ shoes. What domain name will be easiest to remember or type? Which will stand out for their originality and be an accurate representation of your brand and what you do?

Try to consider the most important features of your brand and write them down as keywords.

After you’ve come up with a few keywords, try putting them together and see which combinations sound good and memorable.

Tip 3:Make it memorable

Keep it short and sweet. Lengthy domains are a mouthful, hard to remember and may not even fit on your business card.

Take these two for example: cardoctor.com and newjerseycarrepairshop.com. Which one would you remember?

Think creatively! It’s not just about length, but also the ring of how a domain sounds.

Tip 4: Choose the best domain extension

The extension is the part of your domain name after the “dot”. The most recognizable extension in the world is still ".com". Even though there are many more extensions available(think .org, .net, etc), .com remains the best choice in most cases. If a .com is not available, consider other neutral extensions like .net or .info.
